Best eSIM for Europe? Your carrier’s day pass, a Europe eSIM or a SIM card, compared

In short

There is no single best eSIM for Europe: the right one depends on your days, data and countries. Our Europe plan is data only, 5GB for 30 days at $11.99 (checked on October 29, 2026). AT&T’s Day Pass and Verizon’s TravelPass cost $12 a day in Europe on postpaid plans: $84 for a week on one phone (our arithmetic).

Information verified on October 29, 2026 at the official sources listed below. Carriers change prices and terms; your own plan decides what you pay.

This site is not affiliated with any carrier named on this page; we sell eSIMs. How we compare

You may not need an eSIM. T-Mobile Experience Beyond (up to 15GB) and More, AT&T Elite 2.0 and Google Fi Unlimited Premium include data in Europe. If the trip fits inside that allowance, keep your own line.

Verizon Unlimited Ultimate prints no country list, so ask Verizon about your countries.

Three bill traps come first. Without a pass, AT&T charges $2.05 per MB of data (AT&T pay-per-use rates). A call, a text you send or background data can start a $12 Verizon TravelPass day (Verizon TravelPass FAQs).

A T-Mobile International Pass bought without a start date begins at once (T-Mobile International Pass). We compare public packages; check your own plan.

Will your US phone work in Europe? Carrier by carrier

Yes, on most plans: AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Google Fi and seven smaller carriers list the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain and France. Boost Mobile’s list names England, Scotland, Wales, Spain and France, but not Italy (checked on October 29, 2026).

How we compared the options for Europe

We compared four ways to get data for “best eSIM for Europe” on October 29, 2026. They are a carrier day pass in Europe, plan data, a local SIM card and a Europe eSIM.

Each is judged on price for the trip length, data, network and what your phone needs. So “best eSIM for Europe” gets a dated comparison for your trip here, never a ranking of sellers. We name no sellers, and every figure carries its check date.

For scale, we checked 2,533 prices from 11 travel-eSIM sellers in 34 destinations, from a US IP on October 29, 2026. Across 29 destinations, the middle price was $8.00 for 3 GB over 30 days and $19.00 for 10 GB.

Spain and France sit at the low end. Those two baskets had middle prices of $6 and $14 in Spain, $6 and $15.50 in France, and $17.50 and $36 in the Bahamas.

The table prices a land trip for one phone and for a family of four on postpaid plans (our arithmetic). AT&T’s cruise page says you pay for at most 10 Day Pass days in one billing cycle (checked on October 29, 2026, AT&T). Both passes bill days of use only: AT&T says “you’ll only pay for the days you use”, Verizon “Pay only for days of use.”

In Europe, postpaid7 days, one phone7 days, four phones14 days, one phone14 days, four phones
AT&T Day Pass$84$210$120 if all 14 days fall in one billing cycle; up to $168 if they span two$300 or $372 in one billing cycle (see below); up to $420 if they span two

T-Mobile Experience Beyond or More$0 inside 15GB or 5GB$0 inside each line’s allowance$0 inside 15GB or 5GB$0 inside each line’s allowance
Our Europe plan, 5GB, 30 days, data only$11.994 × $11.99$11.994 × $11.99
Our Europe plan, 10GB, 30 days, data only$18.994 × $18.99$18.994 × $18.99

AT&T’s first line pays $12 a day and each additional line used that day $6, so four phones cost $30 a day (our arithmetic). Its cruise page words the cap this way: “the cost is $12 per day for 10 days within a single billing cycle. Any additional line on your account will be an additional fee of $6 per day, when used on the same day.”

That page does not say whether the 10 days also cap the $6 lines. If they do, 14 days in one billing cycle come to $300 for four phones; if they don’t, $372 (our arithmetic).

If the trip crosses your bill date and splits 7 and 7, no cap is reached: four phones then cost up to $420 (our arithmetic). Ask AT&T before you count on the lower figure.

Borders inside Europe do not restart a Verizon day. Verizon’s FAQ says a new fee starts only between countries with different daily fees, such as Mexico and Italy (checked on October 29, 2026, Verizon TravelPass FAQs).

Verizon’s Monthly Plan is $100/mo per line with 20GB at high speed, then 3G. Verizon calls it “Perfect for trips of 9 days or more” (checked on October 29, 2026, Verizon). On Essentials, T-Mobile’s Passes are $50 for 15GB for up to 10 days and $75 for 30GB for 30 days (checked on October 29, 2026, T-Mobile).

Where an eSIM does not win: on Experience Beyond, Elite 2.0 or Fi Premium, European data inside the allowance costs nothing extra. Google Fi data abroad counts toward the same monthly high-speed data as home use (Google Fi).

On Fi Flexible, data abroad is $10 per GB, and Bill Protection means one person pays up to $60 for data (checked on October 30, 2026, Google Fi plans). Above 15 GB abroad, Flexible drops to 256 kbps.

On smaller carriers, one phone for 14 days costs $140 on base Visible’s Global Pass (our arithmetic). Cricket’s daily Passport gives up to 20 more days free after 10 days in a row within 30 days. So 14 days on that daily option cost $100 to $140 (our arithmetic, checked on October 29, 2026).

A carrier pass puts data, calls and texts on your own number. Ours is data only, one plan per phone. The plan doesn’t state a hotspot rule — check the plan page.

Roaming or eSIM runs the numbers for your own trip.

A European SIM card or an eSIM?

Apple says iPhone 14 models or later “purchased in the United States can only be activated with an eSIM” (checked on October 29, 2026, Apple). A European SIM card will not go into those phones, and we sell no physical SIM cards.

An older phone with a SIM tray can still take a European SIM card. We have no checked prices or terms for local cards, so this page compares the eSIM side only. Do iPhones have SIM cards? covers the tray question.

One Europe plan or one country: is the UK included?

Yes: our Europe plan covers 41 countries on one data allowance. The United Kingdom and Switzerland are on its list, though neither is in the EU (plan details as of October 29, 2026).

Turkey is on that list but has its own page: SIM card for Turkey.

10GB for 30 days, data onlyPricePer GB (our arithmetic)
Our Europe plan, 41 countries$18.99about $1.90
Our UK plan$13.99about $1.40
Our Italy plan$13.99about $1.40
Our Spain plan$9.99about $1.00
Our France plan$12.99about $1.30

A one-country plan wins when you stay put: for 5GB over 30 days, Italy alone is $6.99 and our Europe plan $11.99. Two country plans can also undercut one Europe plan. On October 29, 2026, Italy and France with 5GB each, France at $8.99, came to less than the Europe plan with 10GB (our arithmetic).

A multi-country plan like our Europe plan wins when the trip crosses borders often. One install and one allowance cover the list, and no data is left behind in a country you have left.

For heavier use, our Europe plan for 7 days is Unlimited — 5 GB/day at full speed, then reduced to 1 Mbps — at $26.99, data only. That is up to 35GB at full speed over the week (our arithmetic); daily limits on eSIM plans explains the wording.

United Kingdom: a UK SIM card or an eSIM?

Our UK plan with 5GB for 30 days is $8.99, data only, on EE, Three and Virgin Media O2. About 5.78 million US residents flew to the United Kingdom in 2025, the most of these four countries (NTTO, Survey of International Air Travelers, 2025).

The UK is on every published carrier list in the table above; Boost Mobile’s names England, Scotland and Wales. Our Europe plan covers the UK too, but its page says Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man are not included.

Some of our UK plans add minutes and texts, and the plan page says those minutes are for calls within the United Kingdom only. The 5GB plan above has none.

The U.S. Department of State rates the United Kingdom Level 2: “Exercise Increased Caution” (updated September 8, 2026, travel.state.gov). A UK-only trip: our UK plans.

Italy: an Italy SIM card or an eSIM?

Our Italy plan with 5GB for 30 days is $6.99, data only, and Italy is on the AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Google Fi lists. Boost Mobile’s published list leaves Italy out (checked on October 29, 2026): ask Boost before you go.

Our Italy plans must be installed within 90 days of purchase (plan details as of October 29, 2026). Our UK, Spain and France plans allow a year. If you buy months ahead, install within those 90 days.

About 4.66 million US residents flew to Italy in 2025 (NTTO). Summer is the peak: about 1.69 million in the third quarter against about 0.56 million in the first.

The U.S. Department of State rates Italy Level 2: “Exercise Increased Caution” (updated September 9, 2026, travel.state.gov). An Italy-only trip: our Italy plans.

Spain: a Spain SIM card or an eSIM?

Our Spain plan with 5GB for 30 days is $6.99, data only, on one network, 5G. Spain is on every published carrier list in the table, Boost Mobile’s included (checked on October 29, 2026).

Of our four country plans in the 10GB table above, Spain’s costs the least on October 29, 2026 (our arithmetic). Its APN sets itself, so there is nothing to enter after you install.

About 3.15 million US residents flew to Spain in 2025 (NTTO). The U.S. Department of State rates Spain Level 2: “Exercise Increased Caution” (updated July 31, 2026, travel.state.gov). More: our Spain plans.

France: a France SIM card or an eSIM?

Our France plan runs on two networks, Bouygues and , both 5G: 5GB for 30 days is $8.99, data only. Every published carrier list in the table includes France, Boost Mobile’s too (checked on October 29, 2026).

Of our four country plans, only France’s needs an APN entered by hand on Android. The plan page says iPhone sets it on its own; on Android, enter the value it gives after you install, or data will not start. Our Europe plan asks for the same step on Android.

About 4.32 million US residents flew to France in 2025 (NTTO). The U.S. Department of State rates France Level 2: “Exercise Increased Caution” (updated October 20, 2026, travel.state.gov). More: our France plans.

How much data for 2 weeks in Europe

On our Europe plan, 10GB for 30 days at $18.99 leaves about 0.71GB a day over 14 days (our arithmetic). With 20GB at $29.99, that is about 1.43GB a day. The GB you use in Italy come off the same allowance you use in France.

Your phone’s cellular data screen shows what a week at home uses; set your trip against that. How much data do I need? turns your maps and video use into GB; this page sets no number for you.

Before you go: unlocked phone, install at home, your US number

Each phone in your group needs its own eSIM and must be unlocked. Apple says that to use another carrier abroad, “your iPhone cannot be locked to a carrier” (checked on October 29, 2026, Apple).

Apple’s unlock page adds that only your current carrier can unlock an iPhone, so ask well before the trip (Apple). Install at home on Wi-Fi with how to install an eSIM.

With both lines on, Apple says the travel eSIM is used for data, and “You might still incur roaming fees from your home eSIM” (Apple). Turn data roaming off on the US line: data roaming shows how, and Dual SIM covers the setup. Calls and texts are outside that switch: on AT&T or Verizon, either can still start a $12 day.

Texts and 2FA codes still come to your US number on the home line: keep your US number explains which ones reach you.

Check before you fly

What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Europe?

Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.

The first is the line for cellular data. In the phone’s SIM settings, pick the travel line for cellular data; your US line stays on for calls and texts, with its cellular data off.

The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Europe as roaming for it.

The third is the APN. The plan does not set it by itself here: add internet on Android under the eSIM line’s cellular network settings.

The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch Airplane Mode on and off, and let it find a partner network; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.

Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimworld.us with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)

For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, $4.99. For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, $11.99. If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, $26.99, with 5 GB a day at full speed, then reduced to 1 Mbps.

I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If your US plan already includes Europe and its limit is enough for you, roaming costs you nothing extra and keeps your number (compare the carriers). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to your carrier, it cannot take the plan: check if your phone is unlocked. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best eSIM for Europe?

No one best eSIM for Europe suits a family on AT&T and a T-Mobile Experience Beyond user alike, so we rank no sellers. A week of AT&T Day Passes for four phones is $210 (our arithmetic). Inside T-Mobile Experience Beyond’s 15GB, Europe costs nothing extra; our Europe plan is data only, one eSIM per phone (checked on October 29, 2026).

Does an eSIM work in Europe?

Yes, on an unlocked phone that supports eSIM. Our Europe plan covers 41 countries with data only; its days start at the first connection to a network in one of them. Install it at home on Wi-Fi, then turn data roaming off on your US line so the travel eSIM carries the data.

Do I turn off roaming when using an eSIM on my iPhone?

Yes, on your US line; keep data roaming on for the travel eSIM, which needs it to connect abroad. Apple says that with both lines on, the travel eSIM is used for data, but “You might still incur roaming fees from your home eSIM.” The US switch stops data only: on AT&T or Verizon, even an answered call or a sent text can start a $12 day.

Does a Europe eSIM cover the UK and Switzerland?

Ours does: the United Kingdom and Switzerland are both on our Europe plan’s list of 41 countries. Its page says Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man are not included. Another seller’s list may differ, so read the list before you buy.

Can I use one eSIM across several countries?

Yes, with a regional plan. Our Europe plan works across its whole country list on one data allowance, so a trip through Italy, France and Spain needs one install. A single-country plan stops at that border.
