On most of our plans the days start only when the eSIM first connects at your destination, so you can install it at home before you fly; the activation rule of each plan is on its country page. Below are short answers for the week before you fly, the install, the first hour abroad and the trip home; when a question needs a step-by-step guide, the link takes you to the right page.

In detail

In short

Before you buy, check that your phone is unlocked. On an iPhone, Settings → General → About should show “No SIM restrictions” next to Carrier Lock (checked on October 29, 2026, Apple). Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi, and when you land, turn on data roaming for the travel line.

This site is not affiliated with any carrier named on this page; we sell eSIMs. How we compare

You may not need an eSIM. If your carrier plan already includes data where you are going, stay on it. This travel eSIM help follows a trip in order.

Before you buy

A travel eSIM is another carrier’s plan, so the unlock check comes first. Apple says that to use another carrier when traveling internationally, “your iPhone cannot be locked to a carrier” (checked on October 29, 2026, Apple).

Read Is my phone unlocked? and Does my phone support eSIM? together. If the phone is locked, the unlock rules by carrier show when each carrier unlocks it.

A US iPhone 14 or later has no SIM tray, so an eSIM is the only way to add a travel plan (checked on October 29, 2026, Apple, Apple models). Do iPhones have SIM cards? lists the models, and how to pay covers card payment in US dollars.

Before you fly

Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi before you fly. On 374 of the 379 plan families in our catalog, the days start only when the eSIM first connects at your destination (October 29, 2026).

The other 5 start at installation, so check the activation rule on your plan. The plan page also shows how long you have to install the eSIM.

The installation guide has the steps for iPhone and Android. Unsure how much to buy? How much data you need estimates it. New phone before the trip? See how to transfer an eSIM.

When you land

Most of our plans are data only: 371 of the 379 plan families in our catalog on October 29, 2026. Your US number stays on your main line for calls and texts.

Turn on data roaming for the travel line, and choose it for cellular data. Hotspot on our plans: the plan doesn’t state a hotspot rule — see the plan page.

The data roaming page covers what the setting does and what it can cost on a US line. The dual SIM guide says which line carries what, and keeping your US number covers 2FA codes and texts.

On a cruise, an eSIM works in port, not at sea, because ship networks are separate; see your phone on a cruise.

If something goes wrong

With no signal or no data, check data roaming on the travel line first, then that the travel line is your cellular data line. Apple also suggests Airplane Mode for about 30 seconds (checked on October 29, 2026, Apple).

If the date and time are wrong after you land, turn on Set Automatically under Date & Time. Don’t delete the eSIM to fix a connection; eSIM not working abroad has all the checks in order.

If the QR code never arrived, or you want a refund, use contact us. We refund in full within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM hasn’t connected to a network; the refund policy has the conditions.

After the trip

Switch the travel eSIM off first and delete it only when you are done. Apple warns that after you erase an eSIM, “you’ll need to contact your carrier to get a new one” (checked on October 29, 2026, Apple).

How to delete an eSIM has the steps.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I buy and install an eSIM?

Any time before you fly, as long as you install it within the window shown on the plan page. On most of our plans the days start only when the eSIM first connects at your destination, so installing early does not use up days. Install it at home, on Wi-Fi.

Do I turn on data roaming for the eSIM?

Yes, for the travel line. Turn Data Roaming on for that line and choose it for cellular data. What you do with Data Roaming on your US line is your choice; the data roaming page explains what it can cost.

Can I get a refund or change the destination?

Yes, within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM hasn’t connected to a network. That covers a wrong destination or plan too: ask for a refund, then buy the right one. The refund policy page has the full conditions.

Before you buy

Will I get a phone number at my destination?

On most plans, no: the eSIM is data only. Calling apps are subject to the rules of the country you are in. For 3 destinations in the catalog there are also plans with minutes and SMS, and the country page shows which ones.

Will my US SIM keep working?

It stays in your phone. The eSIM is added as a second line: data goes through it, and your US number stays on the phone for calls and texts. To avoid roaming charges from your US carrier: on an iPhone, each line has its own Data Roaming switch; turn it off on the US line and on for the travel eSIM. On Android it depends on the brand: if there is one switch for all SIMs, leave it on and choose the eSIM as the line for cellular data. Whether texts, including bank security codes, reach your US number abroad, and what they cost, depends on your carrier’s roaming terms.

Does my phone support eSIM?

Most recent models do, but not all, and a phone locked to a carrier rejects the profile. Check yours in the list of eSIM-compatible phones before you buy. On an iPhone, Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock should say “No SIM restrictions”; on other phones, ask your carrier whether the phone is unlocked. The details are on the unlocked phone page.

Do WhatsApp and Instagram work?

They work as on any cellular data connection, because the eSIM is a data connection. The exception is services that the country itself blocks.

Order and payment

How do I pay?

By debit or credit card, or Apple Pay or Google Pay if Stripe shows them on your device, in US dollars (exactly the price shown), on Stripe’s secure payment page. It appears on your statement as JET SHARING. The details are on the how to pay page.

What currency am I charged in?

Pay by card: you are charged exactly the price shown, in US dollars. The seller is a company registered in the United States, so this is a payment to a US business. Online payments must be enabled on your card.

The QR code didn't arrive. What should I do?

Check the spam and promotions folders of the email address you gave with the order. If it isn’t there, use Find my order or write to support@esimworld.us from the email address you used to buy.

Installation and activation

I installed the eSIM at home. Has the plan started?

Installing and activating are different steps. On most of our plans the days start when the eSIM first connects at your destination; check the activation rule shown on your plan’s country page.

How do I install the eSIM?

Scan the QR code from the email with your phone, ideally at home on Wi-Fi. The steps are in the installation guide, with a section for Android.

Can I use the same eSIM on two phones?

No. The profile stays on the phone where you installed it. To get online on another device, buy another plan; ask us before you rely on sharing the connection from your phone.

During the trip

How do I see how much data I have left?

Your phone shows an estimate for the eSIM line: on an iPhone, in Settings → Cellular; on Android, in the network or data usage settings, where names differ by brand and model. The order page, linked in your email, can also show the balance.

My data ran out before the end of the trip. What now?

Buy a new plan for the rest of the trip on the destination page; it comes with its own QR code by email.

Refunds
