Cricket Wireless international roaming: Passport at $10 a day, Mexico and Canada, and the unlock catch

In short

Cricket Passport costs $10 a day, or $25 for 5GB over 5 days, on Cricket plans that include Mexico and Canada roaming. Partner networks may slow data to as little as 2G (checked on October 29, 2026, Cricket international roaming).

Information verified on October 29, 2026 at the official sources listed below. Carriers change prices and terms; your own plan decides what you pay.

Compare with a travel eSIM for Europe — from $2.99

This site is not affiliated with Cricket Wireless; we sell eSIMs. How we compare

You may not need an eSIM. Cricket says its unlimited plans include Mexico and Canada, so stay on Cricket there: same number, no second line. Elsewhere, our plans cost less than the Cricket international plan on every trip we priced (our arithmetic).

Two bill traps come first: the daily option renews for every 24 hours of use until you cancel it. And Cricket’s own pages disagree on which plan Passport needs. We compare public packages; check your own plan.

How does Cricket Passport work and what does it cost?

Cricket Passport has two options: $10 a day per line, or $25 per line for 5GB over 5 days, each with talk and text. Neither covers hotspot data (checked on October 29, 2026, Cricket international roaming).

Passport optionPriceWhat you get
Daily$10 a day per lineData, talk and text for 24 hours; renews for every 24 hours of use until you cancel
5GB for 5 Days$25 per line5GB of data plus talk and text for 5 days; after 5GB, talk and text only until the 5 days end

Cricket is prepaid, and Passport charges the payment method on file. Talk and text cover calls and texts in the country you visit and with the US. When a 5GB pass runs out, Cricket lets you buy another one or switch to the daily option.

The daily option has a free-day rule. After 10 days in a row within 30 days, Cricket gives “up to an additional 20 days” at no extra cost. Because Cricket says “up to”, our arithmetic below shows a range, not one total.

To add the Cricket international plan, you need a Cricket plan with Mexico and Canada roaming. Two Cricket pages give two different starting prices for that plan, so we print none: check your plan.

Passport against our plans, by trip length

In all four trips below, our plan costs less than the Cricket international plan (our arithmetic). Our plans need an unlocked phone that supports eSIM, and a Cricket phone can stay locked for up to 365 days of paid service. Check yours first: Is my phone unlocked? and Does my phone support eSIM?

Trip5GB passes, one after another (our arithmetic)Daily option (our arithmetic)Our plan, data only
5 days in Spain$25: one pass, 5GB$50$11.99, 5GB, 30 days (Europe eSIM)
7 days in Spain$50: two passes, 5GB each$70$11.99, 5GB, 30 days
14 days in the Dominican Republic$75: three passes, 5GB each$100 to $140$17.99, 5GB, 30 days (Dominican Republic eSIM)
30 days in the Dominican Republic$150: six passes, 5GB each$100 to $300$28.99, 10GB, 30 days

In the daily column, the low figure counts every free day and the high figure counts none. Past 10 days, the daily option can cost less than a chain of passes, but only if the free days apply.

Passport keeps one thing our plans lack: calls and texts on your own number, with no second line to set up. Our plans in the table are data only. The plan doesn’t state a hotspot rule — check the plan page.

For scale, we checked 144 prices for 5GB over 30 days from 11 travel-eSIM sellers, from a US IP on October 29, 2026. The middle half cost $10.80 to $16.80, across 29 destinations.

Mexico and Canada on Cricket

Cricket says its unlimited plans cover data, calls and texts in Mexico and Canada, with no pass to buy. In Mexico, off AT&T Mexico, data “may be reduced to 2G speeds” (checked on October 29, 2026, Cricket’s Mexico and Canada page).

In Canada, your calls, texts and data must stay “under 50% of your total usage in a 3-month period,” Cricket says. Go past it and “you risk service being suspended.” Your main use must also be in the US.

A one-week trip stays far below half of 3 months of use (our arithmetic). If you will spend weeks in Canada, ask Cricket what your line allows.

If your plan lacks Mexico, our Mexico plan is $12.99 for 5GB over 30 days, data only (Mexico eSIM). For local SIMs and other options, see Mexico SIM options.

Which countries does Passport cover?

Passport works in the places on Cricket’s list, copied below as Cricket prints them, with no count added. Mexico and Canada are not on it, since they run on the plan, and Japan is missing too (checked on October 29, 2026, Cricket Passport countries).

Cricket says “new countries will continue to be added throughout 2026,” so search it before you buy.

Australia; Austria; Aland Islands; Anguilla; Antigua and Barbuda; Argentina; Aruba; Bahamas; Barbados; Belgium; Bermuda; Bolivia; Bonaire/Eustatius/Saba; Brazil; British Virgin Islands; Bulgaria; Cayman Islands; Chile; China; Costa Rica; Colombia; Croatia; Curacao; Czechia; Denmark; Dominica; Dominican Republic; Ecuador; Egypt; El Salvador; Estonia; Finland; France; Gibraltar; Germany; Greece; Grenada; Guatemala; Honduras; Hong Kong; Iceland; India; Ireland; Israel; Italy; Jamaica; Jordan; Kenya; Liechtenstein; Luxembourg; Malaysia; Montserrat; Morocco; Netherlands; New Zealand; Nicaragua; Norway; Palestine; Panama; Paraguay; Peru; Philippines; Poland; Portugal; Republic of Korea; Slovenia; South Africa; Spain; St. Barthelemy; St. Kitts and Nevis; St. Lucia; St. Marteen; St. Martin (French side); St. Vincent and Grenadines; Svalbard and Jan Mayen; Sweden; Switzerland; Taiwan; Thailand; Turkey; Turks and Caicos Islands; United Arab Emirates; United Kingdom; Vietnam; Western Sahara.

If your country is missing, Passport does not cover it. Work out your trip to price the other routes.

Can you add a travel eSIM to a Cricket phone?

Only if the phone is unlocked and supports eSIM. Cricket’s policy page says it unlocks a phone on request once it has “at least 365 days of paid service” (checked on October 29, 2026, Cricket’s unlock policy).

Cricket’s unlock help page asks “at least six months of paid service” for phones bought before July 1, 2026. The two pages differ, so ask Cricket which rule fits your phone. A locked phone cannot take a travel eSIM (locked phones).

The other conditions, and how to ask, are on Cricket’s unlock rules.

With two eSIMs on a supported iPhone, Apple says “your travel eSIM will be used for data.” It also warns: “You might still incur roaming fees from your home eSIM” (checked on October 29, 2026, Apple).

So turn off data roaming on the Cricket line (dual SIM). Your US number stays on your main line for 2FA codes and app verification. Most of our plans are data only; check the plan’s calls/SMS fields.

If you plan to buy an unlocked phone for the trip, moving your Cricket eSIM to it is where the pages disagree. Cricket says an eSIM moves during setup when both phones are an unlocked iPhone XS or newer. It rules out Android to Android, “nor transfer between an Apple device and an Android device” (checked on October 29, 2026, Cricket eSIM).

Apple’s Android-to-iPhone page lists Cricket, and Samsung lists it among carriers that “may allow” eSIM Instant Transfer. The pages disagree; ask Cricket first. Steps for each route are in transfer your eSIM.
