Does T-Mobile work in Mexico and Canada? What Experience Beyond, More and Essentials include

In short

T-Mobile includes Mexico and Canada: Experience Beyond gets 30GB and Experience More 15GB of high-speed data, then up to 256kbps. Essentials gets up to 128kbps (checked on October 29, 2026, T-Mobile Mexico and Canada).

Information verified on October 29, 2026 at the official sources listed below. Carriers change prices and terms; your own plan decides what you pay.

This site is not affiliated with T-Mobile; we sell eSIMs. How we compare

Does T-Mobile work in Mexico? Yes: on postpaid plans, Mexico and Canada are part of the plan, with nothing extra to buy. You may not need an eSIM: on Beyond or More, a normal vacation runs on your own line and your own number.

Two traps: hotspot use counts toward the allowance, and T-Mobile’s headline shows More at 30GB while its plan list says 15GB. Prepaid lines need a $5 add-on. We compare public packages; check your own plan.

How much high-speed data does each T-Mobile plan get in Mexico and Canada?

T-Mobile Experience Beyond gets 30GB of high-speed data in Mexico and Canada and Experience More 15GB. Essentials 2.0 and Essentials Saver 2.0 get none: their data runs at up to 128kbps from the start (checked on October 29, 2026, T-Mobile Mexico and Canada).

Go5GUp to 10GBUp to 128kbps

T-Mobile’s Mexico and Canada page contradicts itself on More. Its headline groups “Experience Beyond and Experience More” under “Up to 30GB of high-speed data”. The plan list lower on the same page gives More “Up to 15GB”.

We print 15GB: T-Mobile’s plans page also lists More with “15GB of high-speed data in Canada & Mexico” (T-Mobile plans). Check your plan before you count on 30GB.

What happens after the high-speed data runs out?

T-Mobile keeps your data going in Mexico and Canada at a reduced speed after the allotment. Beyond and More drop to up to 256kbps; Go5G, Magenta, ONE and Plus to up to 128kbps (checked on October 29, 2026, T-Mobile Mexico and Canada).

Hotspot use counts too. T-Mobile’s support page says the allowance “includes both phone and tethering data usage” (T-Mobile: Mexico and Canada terms). A laptop on your hotspot uses up 15GB faster than a phone alone.

For more high-speed data there, the same support page points to an International Pass. The pass prices are on our T-Mobile roaming page.

Long stays and the roaming rule

T-Mobile’s terms read: “Not for extended international use; you must reside in the U.S. and primary usage must occur on our U.S. network.” They also say service “may be terminated or restricted for excessive roaming or misuse”.

T-Mobile gives no day count, so we give none. For a family stay of several weeks, ask T-Mobile what your line allows.

Calls back to the US

Calls and texts between the US, Mexico and Canada come with the benefit, T-Mobile’s support page says. Its Mexico and Canada page adds “No roaming charges”. The exceptions are in the terms: conference and chat lines “may cost extra”, and premium-rate numbers are not included.

For Essentials, T-Mobile’s page mentions only data, so on Essentials check your plan for calls.

Which network T-Mobile uses

T-Mobile does not name its partner networks in Mexico and Canada on the pages we checked. Its terms say only that it is “not responsible for the performance of our roaming partners’ networks”.

Asked in r/tmobile which network T-Mobile uses in Mexico, a Reddit user wrote: “It’s Ehhh… you will survive. From my experience, there’s coverage but slow speed” (Reddit, January 2026). That is one opinion about Mexico, not a carrier fact.

T-Mobile Prepaid in Mexico and Canada

A T-Mobile Prepaid line gets Mexico and Canada through the $5/mo. Mexico & Canada add-on. It brings calls to and from the US, Mexico and Canada, and up to 5GB of high-speed data there (checked on October 29, 2026, T-Mobile Prepaid).

T-Mobile lists Starter Monthly at $40/mo. with AutoPay and the next plan up at $45/mo. with AutoPay (T-Mobile Prepaid plans). On either one, Mexico and Canada take the add-on.

Unlimited Plus Monthly, $60/mo. with AutoPay, lists talk and text to and from the US, Mexico and Canada. T-Mobile does not confirm data in Mexico and Canada for it on the pages we checked, so we give no figure.

A travel eSIM needs an unlocked phone, on Prepaid or postpaid. Is my phone unlocked? has the check, T-Mobile unlock rules have the waiting periods, and Does my phone support eSIM? covers the hardware.

When a Mexico or Canada eSIM is worth it on T-Mobile

On T-Mobile Essentials, data in Mexico and Canada runs at up to 128kbps, and that is where a data-only eSIM pays off. Our Mexico plan with 1GB for 7 days is $3.99; on a one-week trip on Experience Beyond or More, an eSIM does not win.

Hotspot on our plans: the plan doesn’t state a hotspot rule — check the plan page. Our Canada plan stays active on its network for 90 days at most; after that, you need a new purchase.

Add the travel eSIM as a second line and keep your T-Mobile line on for calls and texts. On iPhone you pick which line carries cellular data (checked on October 29, 2026, Apple). Dual SIM has the steps, and eSIM no signal helps if the new line shows no bars.

Our Mexico and Canada plans are data only; your US number stays on your main line for 2FA codes and texts. For the rest of the carrier picture, see T-Mobile roaming everywhere else, the Mexico guide, the Canada guide and roaming or eSIM.

Frequently asked questions

Does T-Mobile charge roaming in Mexico?

No, not on a qualifying plan: T-Mobile’s Mexico and Canada page says “No roaming charges”. Experience Beyond gets 30GB and Experience More 15GB of high-speed data there, and Essentials 128kbps (checked on October 29, 2026). Calls and texts between the US, Mexico and Canada come with the benefit; a Prepaid line needs the $5/mo. add-on.

Do I need to set anything up for T-Mobile in Mexico or Canada?

No. T-Mobile’s Mexico and Canada page says “No setup required.” Its terms add one condition: “Device must register on our U.S. network before international use.” Use a new phone or line in the US before you cross the border.
