# SIM card for Turkey or an eSIM? Buy and install it before you travel

Buy and install your eSIM before you travel: our Turkey plan's terms say eSIMs can't currently be bought in Turkey. AT&T and Verizon postpaid passes cost $12 a day there (checked on October 29, 2026). Turkey is also one of the lower-priced data markets we checked: the middle price for 3 GB over 30 days is $6.20.

This site is not affiliated with any carrier named on this page; we sell eSIMs. [How we compare](https://esimworld.us/how-we-compare/)

You may not need an eSIM. T-Mobile Experience Beyond and More, AT&T Elite 2.0 and Google Fi Unlimited Premium include high-speed data in Turkey, and each lists Turkey by name. Inside that allowance, keep your own line: same number, nothing to install.

Verizon Unlimited Ultimate covers 210+ countries and destinations, but Verizon publishes no country list for it, so ask Verizon before counting on it in Turkey.

Two bill traps come first. With no pass, data in Turkey is billed at $2.05 per MB on both AT&T and Verizon ([AT&T rates](https://www.att.com/international/pay-per-use-rates/), [Verizon rates](https://www.verizon.com/support/international-services-pricing/)). On Verizon, a call you make or answer, a text you send or background data can start a $12 TravelPass day ([Verizon TravelPass FAQs](https://www.verizon.com/support/travelpass-faqs/)).

## Does your US phone work in Turkey? Carrier by carrier

Turkey is on the published lists of AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Google Fi and eight smaller carriers (checked on October 29, 2026). A day there costs $10 on Visible, Cricket, Spectrum or Xfinity passes and $12 on AT&T or Verizon postpaid.

Three carriers can't be checked from a list: Mint and Verizon Prepaid answer only through a search box, and Straight Talk prints no countries.

A Turkey eSIM needs an unlocked phone that supports eSIM. Check both with [Is my phone unlocked?](https://esimworld.us/unlock/is-my-phone-unlocked/) and [Does my phone support eSIM?](https://esimworld.us/esim-compatible-phones/) before you pay.

## How we compared the options for Turkey

On October 29, 2026, we set two routes for Turkey side by side: your carrier's pass or plan data, and an eSIM bought at home. Each is weighed on price for 7 and 14 days, data, and what your phone needs.

For "best eSIM for Turkey," this page gives a method instead of a winner: no seller is named, and none is ranked.

Prices come from 11 travel-eSIM sellers, checked from a US IP. Turkey's middle price was $6.20 for 3 GB over 30 days and $15.70 for 10 GB. The 10 GB middle price over all 29 destinations in that check is $19.00, $3.30 above Turkey's (our arithmetic).

The table gives a USD price for one phone on a land trip, our arithmetic. AT&T's cruise page says you pay for at most 10 Day Pass days in one billing cycle (checked on October 29, 2026, [AT&T](https://www.att.com/wireless/what-is-cellular-at-sea/)). Across two cycles, all 14 days can be billed.

| One phone in Turkey, our arithmetic | 7-day trip | 14-day trip |
|---|---|---|
| AT&T Day Pass, postpaid | $84 | $120 inside one billing cycle; up to $168 across two |
| Verizon TravelPass, postpaid | $84 | $168 |
| Verizon International Monthly Plan | $100 | $100 |
| AT&T Elite 2.0 | $0 inside 20GB | $0 inside 20GB |
| T-Mobile Experience Beyond or More | $0 inside 15GB or 5GB | $0 inside 15GB or 5GB |
| Google Fi Unlimited Premium | $0 inside 50 GB | $0 inside 50 GB |
| Our Turkey plan, 5GB, 30 days, data only | $6.99 | $6.99 |
| Our Turkey plan, 10GB, 30 days, data only | $9.99 | $9.99 |

Where an eSIM does not win: on Beyond, More, Elite 2.0 or Fi Premium, a trip inside the included data adds nothing to the bill. Fi counts data used abroad toward the monthly high-speed allowance you also use at home ([Google Fi](https://fi.google.com/about/international-rates)).

A worked case: two weeks between Istanbul and the coast come to $168 in Verizon TravelPass days (our arithmetic). On AT&T's Day Pass the same trip costs $120 to $168, by billing cycle. Our 10GB plan gives those 14 days about 0.71GB a day, data only (our arithmetic).

A SIM card for Turkey from a local shop is a different route: you buy it after landing, and it needs a SIM tray. We have no checked prices or terms for one, so we weigh it on that trade-off alone.

The products differ: a carrier pass keeps calls, texts and data on your US number. Ours is data only, and the plan doesn't state a hotspot rule — check the plan page. [Roaming or eSIM](https://esimworld.us/roaming-or-esim/) tests your own trip against both.

## Why buy and install before you travel

Our Turkey plan's terms say eSIMs can't currently be purchased in Turkey, so buy it at home and install it on Wi-Fi before you fly. Its days start at the first connection in Turkey, not at purchase (plan details as of October 29, 2026).

Size the data before you leave. A 30-day plan with a fixed amount lets a busy day in Istanbul draw on a quiet one on the coast.

For a heavy week, our 7-day plan is Unlimited — 3 GB/day at full speed, then reduced to 1 Mbps — at $14.99, data only. That allows up to 21 GB at full speed over 7 days (our arithmetic).

Your phone's cellular data screen shows what you use at home, and [how much data do I need](https://esimworld.us/how-much-data-do-i-need/) turns that into a trip figure.

We sell no physical SIM cards, and a SIM card for Turkey is no option on a recent US iPhone. Apple says iPhone 14 models or later purchased in the United States "can only be activated with an eSIM" (checked on October 29, 2026, [Apple](https://support.apple.com/en-us/109357)). [Do iPhones have SIM cards?](https://esimworld.us/help/do-iphones-have-sim-cards/) covers the tray question.

Apple's travel page sets one more condition: with another carrier abroad, "your iPhone cannot be locked to a carrier" ([Apple](https://support.apple.com/en-us/118227)). [How to install an eSIM](https://esimworld.us/how-to-install-esim/) has the setup steps for the Turkey eSIM.

With both lines on, Apple says the travel eSIM carries the data, and "You might still incur roaming fees from your home eSIM" ([Apple](https://support.apple.com/en-us/118227)). Switch data roaming off on the US line ([data roaming](https://esimworld.us/help/data-roaming/#turn-on-off)); it still takes texts and 2FA codes.

A call made or a text sent on that line can still start a paid day on AT&T or Verizon. [Dual SIM](https://esimworld.us/help/dual-sim/) explains which line does what.

## Long stays: the IMEI registration rule

Our Turkey plan's terms set a line at 91 days or more of eSIM data use, accumulated, in a 120-day period. Past it, the phone's IMEI must be registered on Turkey's Central Equipment Identification Register, and a one-time registration charge is paid.

That is our plan's note, not a Turkish government page we have verified, and we give no amount for that charge. A vacation of one or two weeks sits far below 91 days. For a stay near that line, ask the Turkish authorities what applies to your phone before you go.

Our Europe plan's terms carry a matching note: restrictions on use in Turkey beyond 91 days, under local legislation.

## What our Turkey plan covers

Our Turkey plan runs on Türk Telekom, listed as 5G (plan details as of October 29, 2026). It is a data-only plan: no Turkish number, no calls or texts, and no coverage in Northern Cyprus.

Turkey is also on our Europe plan's country list, and that plan's page carries the same buy-before note. For a trip that goes on to Greece or Italy, [our Europe guide](https://esimworld.us/sim-card/europe/) covers the multi-country option.

The U.S. Department of State rates Turkey Level 2: "Exercise Increased Caution" (updated June 8, 2026, [travel.state.gov](https://travel.state.gov/content/tsg_aem/us/en/home/international-travel/travel-advisories/destination.tur.html)).

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need to register my phone in Turkey if I use an eSIM?

No, not for a trip under 91 days, per our Turkey plan's terms. They tie IMEI registration on Turkey's Central Equipment Identification Register, and a one-time registration charge, to 91 days or more of use in 120 days. We give no amount for that charge.

### Can I buy an eSIM after I land in Turkey?

No, per our Turkey plan's terms: they say eSIMs can't currently be purchased in Turkey. Buy it at home and install it on Wi-Fi. The days start when the eSIM first connects in Turkey, so installing early uses up none of them.

### Does the Turkey eSIM work on a US iPhone?

Yes, if the iPhone is unlocked and supports eSIM. Apple says iPhone 14 models or later purchased in the United States can only be activated with an eSIM. A physical SIM card for Turkey will not work in them, so check the lock and eSIM support before you pay.
