# Verizon international plans: TravelPass at $12 a day, the $100 monthly plan and every destination

Verizon TravelPass costs $12/day ($6/day in Mexico and Canada): 5 GB of high-speed data per session, then 3G speeds (checked on October 29, 2026, [TravelPass FAQs](https://www.verizon.com/support/travelpass-faqs/)). Background data alone can start a session.

This site is not affiliated with Verizon; we sell eSIMs. [How we compare](https://esimworld.us/how-we-compare/)

You may not need an eSIM. Unlimited Ultimate already includes 15 GB of high-speed data a month in 210+ destinations, and Mexico and Canada are included on Verizon's Unlimited plans. If your trip fits inside that, Verizon covers it on your own number.

Watch two bill traps. A background email sync or one answered call starts a $12 TravelPass day, and the 27 destinations without TravelPass bill pay-as-you-go rates. We compare public packages; check your own plan.

## How does Verizon TravelPass work and what does it cost?

TravelPass is $12/day in most TravelPass countries and $6/day in Mexico and Canada, and Verizon says "Pay only for days of use." Each day is a 24-hour session with 5 GB at high speed, then 3G speeds (checked on October 29, 2026, [Verizon TravelPass FAQs](https://www.verizon.com/support/travelpass-faqs/)).

A session starts when you make or answer a call, send a text or use data in a TravelPass country, Verizon says. With cellular data or data roaming on, background data counts too: app refreshes, email syncing and software updates. Verizon texts you the session's end time, and "Using your device after that time starts a new session."

Calls within the country and back to the US are included. Wi-Fi calling is not part of TravelPass. Two countries inside one 24-hour session cost one charge, unless their daily fees differ: Mexico to Italy starts a new session.

After the 5 GB, an extra 2 GB of high-speed data costs $10 ($5 in Mexico and Canada). You can buy it more than once.

We found no cap on TravelPass days per bill on Verizon's pages. A 20-day trip with data on every day is 20 sessions.

Without TravelPass, Verizon's pay-as-you-go rates apply. Data is $2.05/MB. Calls are $1.79/min in 159 destinations, $2.99/min in 84, and $0.99/min in Mexico, Canada, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands ([Verizon international services and pricing](https://www.verizon.com/support/international-services-pricing/)).

The Verizon Visa Card gives 2 TravelPass days a year. The archived 5G Get More and Do More plans give 1 day a month. A "For Travelers" perk includes 3 TravelPass days ([Verizon Simplicity FAQs](https://www.verizon.com/support/verizon-simplicity-faqs/)); check its price with Verizon.

<a id="cost"></a>

## TravelPass, the monthly plan or an eSIM: what does a trip cost?

Of the Verizon international plans, TravelPass is the smaller total for one line up to 8 days. The $100 International Monthly Plan is smaller from 9 days (our arithmetic; checked on October 29, 2026, [Verizon International Monthly Plan](https://www.verizon.com/plans/international/international-travel/monthly-plan/)).

Verizon calls the monthly plan "Perfect for trips of 9 days or more." It is "$100/mo per line": the first 20GB of high-speed data, then 3G speeds, 250 minutes (then $0.25/min) and texts. It can be one-time or recurring, and Verizon prints "Plus taxes and fees" next to it.

The table is our arithmetic, per line, with data used every day.

| Days abroad | TravelPass at $12/day (our arithmetic) | Monthly plan | Smaller total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $12 | $100 | TravelPass, $12 |
| 3 | $36 | $100 | TravelPass, $36 |
| 7 | $84 | $100 | TravelPass, $84 |
| 10 | $120 | $100 | Monthly plan, $100 |
| 14 | $168 | $100 | Monthly plan, $100 |

At 9 days TravelPass is $108, $8 above the monthly plan; at 8 days it is $96, $4 below. On a line that pays $6/day in Mexico and Canada, the monthly plan only wins from 17 days (our arithmetic).

Lines multiply the sum. Four lines using data every day of a 7-day trip come to 4 × 7 × $12 = $336 (our arithmetic). Check how Verizon bills each of your lines.

Before you compare with our plans, check your phone: [Is my phone unlocked?](https://esimworld.us/unlock/is-my-phone-unlocked/) and [Does my phone support eSIM?](https://esimworld.us/esim-compatible-phones/)

A Verizon pass puts data, calls and texts on your own number. Our plans in the table are data only: your US number stays on your main line.

| Trip | Verizon, one line (our arithmetic) | Our plan, data only |
|---|---|---|
| 7 days in Europe | $84 with TravelPass, up to 5 GB high-speed per session | $11.99, 5GB, 30 days ([Europe eSIM](https://esimworld.us/esim-europe/)) |
| 14 days in Europe | $100 monthly plan, 20GB, then 3G speeds | $18.99, 10GB, 30 days |

Verizon gives up to 5 GB of high-speed data in each 24-hour session, so up to 35 GB over seven daily sessions (our arithmetic). Our plan gives 5GB in total, and Verizon also includes calls. Compare the dollars per GB you will actually use.

On most of our plans the days start when the eSIM first connects at your destination; check the activation rule shown on your plan. [Work out your trip](https://esimworld.us/roaming-or-esim/) before you buy.

One row where we do not win: a line on Unlimited Ultimate inside its 15 GB costs $0 extra. A travel eSIM adds cost for nothing unless you will pass 15 GB in the month.

## Which Verizon plans already include data abroad?

Unlimited Ultimate includes 15 GB a month of high-speed data in 210+ destinations, then 1.5 Mbps, and it cannot add TravelPass. Unlimited Welcome and Unlimited Plus get TravelPass added automatically, at $12/day (checked on October 29, 2026, [Unlimited Ultimate FAQs](https://www.verizon.com/support/unlimited-ultimate-2-faqs/), [TravelPass FAQs](https://www.verizon.com/support/travelpass-faqs/)).

| Postpaid plan | Abroad | Data |
|---|---|---|
| Unlimited Welcome | TravelPass added automatically, $12/day | 5 GB of high-speed data then 3G speeds, each session |
| Unlimited Plus | TravelPass added automatically, $12/day | 5 GB of high-speed data then 3G speeds, each session |
| Unlimited Ultimate | Included in 210+ destinations | 15 GB a month, then 1.5 Mbps; extra 2 GB $10 |

Ultimate also includes talk and text in the country and to the US. Its Global Choice (calling from the US) gives 300 minutes to 1 of 140 countries, so it is not a travel product. The Cruise and In-flight Daily Passes are sold separately.

On Verizon's broadband labels (October 29, 2026), Unlimited Welcome is $75, Unlimited Plus $90 and Unlimited Ultimate $100 or $105 in two variants ([Verizon plans](https://www.verizon.com/plans/unlimited/myplan/)). So Ultimate costs $10 to $15 a month more than Plus, about one $12 TravelPass day (our arithmetic; discounts change your bill). Compare your own bill before you pick.

**Verizon Prepaid is a different product.** Prepaid TravelPass covers "140+ countries and destinations", against 210+ on postpaid. Verizon shows that list only through a search box, so check your destination there ([Verizon Prepaid TravelPass](https://www.verizon.com/prepaid/plans/international-travel-pass/)).

It costs "$12/line per day", with 5 GB of high-speed data a day, then 3G, charged from your balance. It needs a voice plan: data-only plans cannot use it ([Verizon Prepaid TravelPass FAQs](https://www.verizon.com/support/prepaid-travelpass-faqs/)).

In Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, Prepaid charges "$6/line per day". On Verizon Prepaid's $45 15 GB, $60 Unlimited and $70 Unlimited Plus plans, Mexico and Canada are $0 a day.

<a id="destinations"></a>

## Which destinations have TravelPass, and which don't?

Verizon lists "210+ countries and destinations" for TravelPass at $12/day, with Mexico and Canada at $6/day (checked on October 29, 2026, [Verizon TravelPass countries](https://www.verizon.com/plans/travelpass-countries/)). Another 27 have no TravelPass and bill pay-as-you-go rates only ([Verizon international services and pricing](https://www.verizon.com/support/international-services-pricing/)).

Names below are exactly as Verizon prints them, including island and beach entries that repeat a country.

No TravelPass, 27 destinations in all: American Samoa, Antarctica, Ascension Island, Bhutan, Comoros, Cook Islands, Cuba, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Guantanamo Bay, Lebanon, Lesotho, Libya, Maldives, Mauritania, Mayotte Island, Micronesia, New Caledonia, Norfolk Island, Saipan, Sao Tome and Principe, Somalia, Svalbard, Tahiti, Turkmenistan, Western Sahara, Yemen.

In these places Verizon bills pay-as-you-go rates: $2.05/MB for data, $2.99/min for calls in most, $1.79/min in a few ([Verizon international services and pricing](https://www.verizon.com/support/international-services-pricing/)). For some entries Verizon prints no data rate at all.

Verizon's own pages disagree with themselves twice. Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands are at $12/day, yet "Saipan" is marked without TravelPass. French Polynesia is at $12/day, yet "Tahiti" is marked without it.

We print no figure for Saipan or Tahiti: check with Verizon before you go.

<a id="europe"></a>

### Europe

Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Greece, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Ireland and the United Kingdom are each listed at $12/day. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own entries. Of the 27 destinations without TravelPass, only Svalbard is in Europe.

Trip sums for Europe are in the [cost table](#cost). For country-by-country options, see [SIM cards for Europe](https://esimworld.us/sim-card/europe/).

<a id="japan"></a>

### Japan

Japan is on the list at $12/day. The $100 monthly plan is sold there too ([cost table](#cost)). Our Japan plan with 10GB over 30 days is $14.99, data only ([Japan eSIM](https://esimworld.us/esim-japan/)).

For every way to connect in Japan, see [SIM cards for Japan](https://esimworld.us/sim-card/japan/).

<a id="bahamas"></a>

### Bahamas

The Bahamas is listed at $12/day, as are "New Providence - Nassau", "Paradise Island" and "Cabbage Beach" under their own names. Our Bahamas plan with 3GB over 30 days is $15.99, data only ([Bahamas eSIM](https://esimworld.us/esim-bahamas/)).

We checked 11 travel-eSIM sellers on October 29, 2026. Their middle price for the Bahamas was $17.50 for 3 GB over 30 days and $36 for 10 GB. Caribbean data costs two to three times what Europe does across those sellers.

<a id="dominican-republic"></a>

### Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is listed at $12/day. The same 11 sellers' middle price there was $16.20 for 3 GB over 30 days and $32 for 10 GB.

Test your own days and data on the [trip comparison](https://esimworld.us/roaming-or-esim/). For the islands one by one, see [SIM cards for the Caribbean](https://esimworld.us/sim-card/caribbean-islands/).

<a id="costa-rica"></a>

### Costa Rica

Each TravelPass day in [Costa Rica](https://esimworld.us/sim-card/costa-rica/) is $12. The list says where TravelPass applies, not how strong the signal is along your route. Those 11 sellers' middle price in Costa Rica was $13 for 3 GB over 30 days and $25 for 10 GB.

<a id="india"></a>

### India

India is on Verizon's list at $12/day. Our India plan with 10GB over 30 days is $23.99, data only ([India eSIM](https://esimworld.us/esim-india/)). For a stay of 9 days or more, the [cost table](#cost) shows where the monthly plan comes in.

## Mexico, Canada, cruises, flights and US territories

TravelPass in Mexico and Canada is $6/day, and both countries are included on Verizon's Unlimited plans. Ships and planes have their own $20/day passes, and US territories split three ways (checked on October 29, 2026, [Verizon international services and pricing](https://www.verizon.com/support/international-services-pricing/)).

<a id="mexico-canada"></a>

### Mexico and Canada

Mexico and Canada are $0 extra on Verizon's Unlimited plans and on Prepaid's $45, $60 and $70 plans ([Verizon TravelPass FAQs](https://www.verizon.com/support/travelpass-faqs/)). Verizon may limit that use on long stays: check your plan on our [Verizon Mexico and Canada page](https://esimworld.us/roaming/verizon/mexico-canada/).

<a id="cruise"></a>

### Cruises

The Cruise Daily Pass is $20/day for 0.5 GB of high-speed data, then 3G (checked on October 29, 2026, [Verizon cruise and in-flight passes](https://www.verizon.com/support/international-cruise-inflight-daily-pass-faqs/)). It works on listed ships 12 miles or more from shore, and TravelPass days are not used at sea. On land, TravelPass or the monthly plan applies, and a travel eSIM works in port, not at sea ([cruise connectivity](https://esimworld.us/cruise/)).

<a id="in-flight"></a>

### In flight

The In-flight Daily Pass is $20/day at 3G speeds; reply FLIGHT to the text on board ([Verizon cruise and in-flight passes](https://www.verizon.com/support/international-cruise-inflight-daily-pass-faqs/)). Without it, Verizon's pay-as-you-go rate in the air (Aircraft Services) is $1.99/min.

<a id="us-territories"></a>

### US territories

On postpaid, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands (St. Croix, St. John, St. Thomas) are billed as at home ([Verizon international services and pricing](https://www.verizon.com/support/international-services-pricing/)). Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands are TravelPass at $12/day, with Saipan in the conflict above. American Samoa has no TravelPass.

Verizon Prepaid charges $6/day in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, so "home" depends on your plan type. We have no plan page for these places: check your Verizon plan before you go.

<a id="esim"></a>

## eSIM on Verizon: activation, transfer and a travel eSIM next to your line

Verizon sells TravelPass, not a travel eSIM, so ours runs as a second line beside yours (checked on October 29, 2026, [Verizon international travel](https://www.verizon.com/plans/international/international-travel/)). The phone must be unlocked first, and Verizon unlocks a paid-off postpaid phone with no waiting period (checked on October 29, 2026, [Verizon unlocking policy](https://www.verizon.com/support/device-unlocking-policy/)).

A Verizon Gift Card payment delays the unlock by 35 days; Prepaid phones wait for 365 days of paid and active service. Since January 2026, Verizon follows the industry unlocking code instead of the older 60-day rule ([Federal Communications Commission (FCC) order DA 26-43](https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DA-26-43A1.pdf)). Our [Verizon unlock guide](https://esimworld.us/unlock/verizon/) has the steps.

Verizon's page says the My Verizon app can move your number to an eSIM phone or switch a physical SIM to eSIM. It works over Wi-Fi with no QR code, and the in-app transfer is free. The Account Owner or Manager does it, and on a one-line account you need the old phone to confirm ([Verizon eSIM help](https://www.verizon.com/support/my-verizon-app-esim-faqs/)).

On an iPhone, Verizon's page names **Settings** → **Cellular** → **Add eSIM** (if absent, **Set Up Cellular**) (checked on October 29, 2026, [Verizon iPhone eSIM transfer](https://www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-302189/)). Menus can differ by model and software version. Then follow the steps for your phone ([how to transfer an eSIM](https://esimworld.us/help/transfer-esim/)).

Verizon Prepaid eSIM activation is not covered on the pages we read, so check with Verizon Prepaid.

Apple's page says: "You can have two eSIMs active at the same time on supported iPhone models." With both lines on, "your travel eSIM will be used for data". Apple adds: "You might still incur roaming fees from your home eSIM" (checked on October 29, 2026, [Apple: two eSIMs on iPhone](https://support.apple.com/en-us/118227)).

So set the travel eSIM as the data line and turn off data roaming on the Verizon line ([dual SIM](https://esimworld.us/help/dual-sim/), [data roaming](https://esimworld.us/help/data-roaming/#turn-on-off)). Background data then cannot start a TravelPass day, but a call or text on the Verizon line still can. Verizon counts making or answering a call and sending a text as use.

Whichever Verizon international plans your lines use, your number stays on the main line for 2FA codes and app verification ([keep your US number](https://esimworld.us/help/keep-your-us-number/)). Most of our plans are data only, with no number of their own; check the plan's calls/SMS fields.

If Verizon covers your trip, stay on it. For a trip that does need an eSIM, pick your destination: [Europe](https://esimworld.us/esim-europe/), [Japan](https://esimworld.us/esim-japan/), the [Bahamas](https://esimworld.us/esim-bahamas/) or [India](https://esimworld.us/esim-india/). [All carriers](https://esimworld.us/roaming/) has the other US carriers.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do you get an international plan with Verizon?

Often you already have one. Unlimited Welcome and Unlimited Plus get TravelPass added automatically, and Unlimited Ultimate includes 15 GB in 210+ destinations. On other lines, Verizon says to add TravelPass in My Verizon, through its Trip Planner or by texting Travel to 4004. The $100 International Monthly Plan is a separate option, "Perfect for trips of 9 days or more." (checked on October 29, 2026).

### How do I avoid international charges on Verizon?

Keep cellular data and data roaming off, and skip calls and texts on your Verizon line, until you want a TravelPass day. Check your destination against Verizon's list first: the 27 destinations without TravelPass bill pay-as-you-go rates. Roaming charges can also reach your bill a billing cycle after you return, [the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) says](https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/international-roaming).

### Does Verizon offer coverage in Costa Rica?

Yes, Costa Rica is on Verizon's TravelPass list at $12/day (checked on October 29, 2026). The list names where the pass applies; it does not map signal strength, so ask Verizon about your route.

### Does Verizon charge if I don't use data abroad?

Yes, if you make or answer a call or send a text. Verizon counts that as use, and it starts a 24-hour TravelPass session at $12 ($6 in Mexico and Canada). With cellular data and data roaming off, background apps cannot start one. Days without any use cost nothing: Verizon says "Pay only for days of use."

### Can I use a travel eSIM for data and keep my Verizon number?

Yes, on an unlocked phone that runs two lines. Set the travel eSIM as the data line and keep the Verizon line for calls and texts, with its data roaming off. A call or text on that line abroad can still start a $12 TravelPass day. Your US number stays on your main line, and most of our plans are data only; check the plan's calls/SMS fields.

### Which countries does Verizon not include?

Twenty-seven have no TravelPass: American Samoa, Antarctica, Ascension Island, Bhutan, Comoros, Cook Islands, Cuba, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Guantanamo Bay, Lebanon, Lesotho, Libya, Maldives, Mauritania, Mayotte Island, Micronesia, New Caledonia, Norfolk Island, Saipan, Sao Tome and Principe, Somalia, Svalbard, Tahiti, Turkmenistan, Western Sahara, Yemen (checked on October 29, 2026). There you pay Verizon's pay-as-you-go rates, and Saipan and Tahiti need a check with Verizon.
